In spring 2018, Google updated its healthcare and medicines policy to restrict advertising for recovery oriented services for drug and alcohol addiction. This policy now applies globally, across all accounts that advertise addiction treatment services. In the following year, Facebook and Bing adopted similar policies. All three platforms partnered with LegitScript, the global leader in merchant and advertiser certification and monitoring in the e-commerce and payment sectors, to facilitate a process for vetting addiction treatment providers.
