Life in Recovery; Climbing Mt. Sobriety

One of the aspects I truly cherish about my role at Soberman’s Estate is the opportunity to wear many different hats. Whether it’s being an equine and meditation coach, a group facilitator, a social media/blog creator, an assistant to anyone in need, or even stepping in as a handyman, I find joy in each responsibility. However, one of my favorite roles by far is that of the “Alumni Coordinator.”

It's an honor and privilege to maintain connections with our clients after they leave the Estate. They depart knowing I am always here for them, whether they are struggling, need a friendly voice, or wish to share their successes and achievements. Getting to know them during treatment and witnessing their recovery journey afterward is such an incredible honor. Often, I’m invited to support them during challenging times, but more frequently, they share their triumphs and newfound joy in life with me.

Recently, I’ve received numerous messages filled with inspired hope, prompting me to share these uplifting stories with you. Hearing about someone’s success can motivate and inspire others to seek help and create the life they desire. Each month in our newsletter, I will highlight a few of these shared experiences, ensuring the anonymity of our clients by changing their names.

I vividly remember a message from “Jeff” about a month after he left the Estate. He experienced his first urge while on a business trip. Unable to quiet his mind, he went to his room, removed himself from the risk, and used a breathing technique he learned during treatment. It was encouraging to hear that he remembered and utilized his “toolbox” of skills!

Over the following months, Jeff continued to share updates with me, including family photos, sobriety milestones, and general progress. About a year into his recovery, he shared that he was on vacation at the same place he visited before coming to Soberman’s Estate, even sending comparison photos. The difference was astounding—Jeff looked healthy, happy, and was clearly living a healthy recovery lifestyle.

I’ve enjoyed hearing about Jeff’s journey, and how he has embraced his life of sobriety, and his happiness definitely shows through all of the family vacation photos I’ve seen. Jeff recently celebrated 2 years of Sobriety as well as another incredible milestone and we are all so proud of him! I remembered a goal that he had set while he was in treatment, that really was a lofty one! Jeff had shared with his peers that he wanted to climb Mt. Everest! I know that he knew the only way he would ever achieve that goal is if he was able to maintain his sobriety.  Guess what!?  He knocked that goal out of the park, and recently as he celebrated his sobriety, he climbed Mt. Everest! Way to go Jeff!
